Principle:
Dusting powders are used externally . They are of two types, medicated and surgical dusting powder. Medicated dusting powders are applied on intact skin for their adsorptive, astringent , skin protectant and lubricating properties. Hence they need not to be sterile. Surgical dusting powder are used on cut skin, burn or wound. Hence they must be sterilized. Dusting powder includes ingredients that are astringent( zinc oxide and zinc sulphate), absorbents(kaolin, starch), adherents(stearate of aluminum, zinc and magnesium), slippery agent (talc, zinc stearate)
Procedure:
- Mix camphor with ammonium chloride and methanol with light carbonate separately by light trituration in excess quantity
- Individual mixtures are combined together with light trituration in a mortar
- Weigh 1g of blend and pack by double wrap technique
- Dispense in a labeled envelop
- Discard the excess powder blend
