PRINCIPLE: Wool fat absorbs about 50% of its weigh of water. It assists the absorption of the active ingredients. Hard paraffin is used to stiffen the ointment base. Cetostearyl alcohol improves the stability and emollient property of the ointment. Soft paraffin is used as protective and emollient base.
PROCEDURE:
- Place a required qty of wool fat, hard paraffin, white soft paraffin and Cetostearyl alcohol in china dish.
- Place the china dish on water bath and heat the bath to its boiling point.
- After melting all the ingredients and remove the china dish from the water bath.
- Stir the mixture with a bone spatula until it changes into a semisolid mass without resullting in a separation of hard mass.
