The dusting powder should flow easily, spread uniformly, possesses good covering capability, have good absorptivity, and adhere to skin on application. Starch powder is used to impart these properties to the dusting powder. It is a medicated dusting powder and applied to open wounds. Dusting powder is generally dispensed in sifter top container. it may be applied with powder puff, a soft brush or sterile gauze pad. small particles are less likely to irritate the sensitive tissue; hence it is necessary to pass the powder through 80-mesh sieve.
