Preparation of Aluminium Hydroxide Gel

 

 

AIM: To prepare and submit 20ml of Aluminium hydroxide gel.

TYPE: Suspension containing diffusible solids.

 

FORMULA:

PRINCIPLE: 

        Aluminium hydroxide gel suspension is used as antacid. Aluminium hydroxide is an inorganic salt and acts by neutralising HCl in gastric secretions. sorbital acts as sweetening agent. Methyl paraben and propyl paraben acts as preservative. Peppermint oil as flavouring agent which is soluble in alcohol.

PROCEDURE: 

1. Weighed the required quantity of Aluminium hydroxide gel (diffusible) methyl paraben and propyl paraben are added and triturate.
2. Transfer half the quantity of water in mortar and triturate to form smooth dispersion.
3. Add peppermint oil dissolved in required quantity of alcohol to above smooth dispersion with continuous string.
4. Transfer the dispersion into measuring cylinder and rinse the mortar with water. And make up the volume with water to the required quantity Methyl and Propyl paraben was dissolved in half volume of water.
5. Transfer the suspension to the narrow mouth plastic container with screw cap and label and submit.
