Aim: To Prepare and submit 20ml of terpin hydrate linctus IP

Principle: Terpine hydrate is an expectorant, commonly used to loosen mucus in patients with acute or chronic bronchitis and related condition. It is derived from oil of turpentine, oregano, thyme and eucalyptus.Terpin hydrate is slightly soluble in water, so alcohol is used to dissolve and acts as co solvent, glycerin increases the viscosity of linctus and act as demulcent as it gives soothing effect. Syrup act as a sweetening agent and orange oil act as a flavouring agent.

Procedure:

Depending upon the quantity of preparation to be submitted the working formula is calculated

  1. Weigh required quantity of terpin hydrate and dissolve in alcohol.
  2. Add glycerin, Syrup, Orange oil, and mix well
  3. Pour the contents to measuring cylinder and add sufficient quantity of purified water to produce  required volume.
  4. The preparation is then transferred into light resistant container.

Storage : To be stored at temperature not exceeding 25 C

Label: To be sipped  and swallowed  slowly; Do Not dilute with water.
