Calamine is a mixture of zinc oxide with small amount of ferric oxide it serves as a antiseptic, astringent ( mild protein precipitants, which cleanse the skin, reduces oil secretion and contracts the pores) and skin protectant. Bentonite is a suspending agent. Sodium citrate is a deflocculating agent which prevents suspension from being too viscous and also prevents excessive frothing on shaking. Liquid phenol acts as antiseptic. Glycerin increases the viscosity of preparation and also acts as humectant (prevent drying up to product). Rose water serves as perfumed solvent.
