Preparation of Ephedrine hydrochloride Syrup N.F

 

 

Aim: To prepare, label and submit 30ml of Ephedrine HCl syrup NF

 

Apparatus required:

• Beaker

• Glass funnel

• Glass rod                                                                                     

• Measuring cylinder 

 

Formula:

Ingredients	Official formula	Working formula
Ephedrine hydrochloride	4gm	0.12gm
Syrup qs to	1000ml	30ml

 
 

Principle: 

Ephedrine HCl is an expectorant drug that increases respiratory tract secretion and by lowering its viscosity these agents helps to expel allergens. Hence these are used in cough preparations.

 

Procedure:

    Preparation of Syrup:- Weight 27gms of sugar, transfer to a clean & dry beaker. Add 14ml of             P.Water Heat on a water bath, with occasional stirring or mixing, until sugar dissolved, make up the      weight to 40gm with boiled water, filter if necessary cool use the required quantity for the                      preparation.

• Dissolve required amount of ephedrine in small amount of syrup

Ø  Make up the volume using syrup mix well

Ø  Transfer to clean & dry bottle

Ø  Label and dispense
